On the Anniversary of the Department of Language and General Education for Foreigners and the Faculty of Pre-University Education at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
ACHIEVEMENTS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS
In 2025, the Faculty of Pre-University Education and the Department of Language and General Education Training for Foreigners at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) will celebrate their 40th anniversary.
An anniversary is a meaningful milestone—an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments, appreciate the journey, and look ahead to new horizons.
Recently, KazNU proudly marked its 90th anniversary with a series of events, including meetings, conferences, and discussions to review achievements and outline future goals. In the November 2024 issue of Kazakhstani Literature (Issue 29), the university’s rector, Zh.K. Tuimebayev, shared insights into KazNU’s progress and vision for the future. It was particularly inspiring to learn that a new phase of development has begun, supported by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Rector Tuimebayev, this ambitious project took off in 2024—KazNU’s anniversary year—bringing significant infrastructure improvements, including new dormitories and academic buildings.
Established in 1985 as a preparatory faculty for international students, the Faculty of Pre-University Education has made remarkable strides over the past four decades. Educating foreign students has become a key part of the university’s mission, with thousands of learners from diverse backgrounds studying Kazakh and Russian and continuing their education at KazNU. The faculty’s dedicated teachers have devoted their expertise and passion to this noble cause, guiding students from their first words in Kazakh and Russian to developing academic language skills, engaging in research, and fostering professional collaborations across the globe.
Many of our graduates proudly recall their time at the faculty, valuing their experiences, cherishing their teachers, and applying the knowledge they gained in their careers.
In preparation for the anniversary, under the leadership of Dean S.A. Sartaev, the faculty relocated to the International Faculty building. This move has created exciting new opportunities for interaction and collaboration between international students and their peers at the International Faculty.
With strong potential for growth, the Faculty of Pre-University Education is set to become a major hub for international student training. Dean S.A. Sartaev has outlined key objectives to support this vision, focusing on innovative teaching methods, scientific research, and expanding global partnerships. The faculty is home to highly qualified educators who continuously enhance their teaching approaches and strengthen international collaborations.
Over the past 40 years, faculty members have published numerous academic articles, monographs, textbooks, and teaching materials, while actively participating in and organizing international conferences. Many have earned doctoral and candidate degrees and completed professional training abroad. In recognition of their dedication, several faculty members received prestigious awards and certificates in 2024.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has consistently emphasized the importance of high-quality education as a national priority.
We take great pride in our faculty’s achievements and its contribution to education. Witnessing international students master Kazakh and Russian, integrate into academic and professional communities, and foster economic and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and other nations brings us immense joy.
The rise of digital technologies and artificial intelligence is revolutionizing language learning, enabling students to process vast amounts of information, explore new fields, and develop professional expertise. Advances in translation accuracy, multimedia resources, and digital tools have made language learning more efficient than ever. Yet, human interaction remains irreplaceable—immersion in Kazakhstan’s cultural landscape, understanding its traditions and values, and recognizing its connections with Russia and Central Asia are fundamental to meaningful learning.
Through their work, international students and faculty members contribute to building bridges of peace and cooperation, playing a key role in shaping the future.
The Department of Language and General Education Training for Foreigners at the Faculty of Pre-University Education remains committed to upholding the high standards set by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Moving forward, we embrace new challenges and opportunities with determination and enthusiasm.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire faculty on its 40th anniversary and wish continued success and new achievements in the years to come!
